Our environment, social and governance work
Environmental
Reducing the environmental impact of our operations is a strategic priority for UECC. We invest in cleaner technologies and fuels – including LNG, biofuels and battery-hybrid solutions – and continually enhance the energy efficiency of our fleet. Through initiatives such as Sail for Change, we work with customers and fuel suppliers to reduce emissions from maritime transport and support the decarbonization of European short sea shipping. Our environmental management is supported by certified systems that ensure structured follow-up and continuous improvement.
Our environmental focus includes:
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through alternative fuels and efficient vessel operations.
- Supporting customers in lowering the carbon footprint of their logistics chains.
- Continuous improvement of environmental performance through structured management systems.
Social
UECC’s people at sea and onshore, as well as our partners and stakeholders, are central to our operations. We are committed to safe working conditions, professional development, and a respectful and inclusive working environment. We uphold internationally recognized human and labour rights, and expect the same standards from suppliers and business partners. Social responsibility is integrated into our policies, training, and supplier expectations.
Our social priorities include:
- Health, safety and wellbeing for seafarers and shore-based employees.
- Equitable treatment, inclusion, and professional development.
- Responsible business practices throughout our supply chain.
Governance
Strong governance underpins responsible business conduct at UECC. We operate with integrity and transparency, supported by policies and procedures that guide ethical behaviour, compliance, and risk management. Our governance framework ensures clear accountability and supports compliance with applicable laws and regulations. We report on our ESG performance and due diligence work in line with regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations.
Our governance priorities include:
- Clear standards for ethical business conduct and anti-corruption practices.
- Compliance with international sanctions, trade restrictions, data protection laws, and other regulatory requirements.
- Structured risk management and internal control processes.
Certifications and reporting
UECC’s work to improve its ESG performance is supported by certified management systems and transparent reporting. Our ISO certifications, including environmental and quality management standards, demonstrate that sustainability and operational excellence are embedded in how we run our business. Our public reports provide further insight into our performance, priorities, and due diligence efforts.
Compliance
UECC complies with EU, UK, and other applicable international regulations, including sanctions, trade controls, and sustainability reporting requirements. In addition, we abide by the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles, which cover human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. These principles form part of the foundation for how we manage our operations and relationships with stakeholders.
